City of Golden Valley, MN is Hiring a Recreation Coordinator Near Golden Valley, MN

Summary of Position

The individual in this position supports the administration, planning, and implementation of Parks & Recreation programs, events, and facilities and Brookview guest services.
Expected Hours of Work
Hours vary dependent on the season and are based on the needs of operation. In addition to working office hours, staff may be required to work additional events. Hours may include, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform these essential functions:

  • Collaborate with the Recreation programming team to support ongoing and new recreation initiatives, including developing inclusive and equitable events and activities.
  • Coordinate, execute, and evaluate a variety of parks and recreation programs, events and projects, including but not limited to summer programs, youth athletics, and special events.
  • Support winter ice rink warming houses, including scheduling and ensuring proper staffing.
  • Assist Recreation Supervisors with creating schedules, coordinating staff trainings and meetings, and supervising programs and part-time/seasonal and volunteer staff.
  • Organize, deliver, and coordinate program and facility supplies inventory.
  • Assist with developing marketing, promotional, and community engagement initiatives for recreation programs.
  • Complete reports and documents related to participant feedback and program evaluations.
  • Provide top-level customer service, share information, answer questions, and address concerns for the community members.
  • Support Guest Services desk responsibilities, as needed, including program/class registration, facility reservations, issuing permits, routing calls, preparing invoices and mailings, collecting fees, and answering general questions.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have direct employee supervisory responsibilities. This position will provide direction and support to seasonal and temporary staff and volunteers. This individual will also supervise participants to ensure safety, and enforcement of rules/regulations.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Experience working in the field(s) of parks and recreation or education.
  • Experience working with youth ages 2-17.
  • Computer proficiency: including Microsoft Office programs.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and with people of all ages and abilities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to complete the essential duties and responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in parks and recreation, education, or related field.
  • Experience coordinating and scheduling staff.
  • Experience with recreation management software programs.
  • Experience implementing and coordinating recreation programs.

Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors. Employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Employee is subject to noise, during events and activities, but generally free from additional work hazards.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

  • Regularly read and interpret documents and other written material.
  • Regularly communicate and exchange information with others in person, over the telephone, and using written communication methods.
  • Frequently remain in a stationary position and regularly move within the building to attend meetings and access files and office machinery.
  • Regularly traverse around the City to meetings or events.
  • Regularly operate computers and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, printer, and telephone, as well as equipment/tools consistently found in parks and recreation.
  • Occasionally move or transport items weighing up to 25 pounds.
